An educational experience with the Port Stephens Koala Hospital.

At Natura Port Stephens, we pride ourselves on being more than just a place to call home—we’re part of a larger, living ecosystem. With our over-55s community nestled within a koala corridor, residents have a unique connection to the wildlife around them, particularly the koalas who often make themselves comfortable in the trees surrounding the Natura homes. 

In celebration of Save the Koala Day, our residents had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful and educational experience with the Port Stephens Koala Hospital. The Koala Hospital team delivered an insightful talk, covering everything from koala behaviour to conservation efforts that protect these iconic Australian animals. 

Key topics covered: 

• Koala behavior: We gained a better understanding of how koalas live, move and interact in their natural habitat. 

• What to do if you see a koala: Important information was shared on how to safely approach or report a koala in distress. 

• Breeding season: As we learned, this time of year is crucial for the koala population. 

• Koala diet and lifespan: The discussion revealed the dietary needs of koalas and the average lifespan of these adorable marsupials. 

• Conservation efforts: It was inspiring to hear about the ongoing work being done to protect koalas, especially as we live so close to their natural habitat. 

The event was not only educational but also deeply connected to the values of our community. With koalas residing right in our backyard, this talk was a reminder of how fortunate we are to share our space with such special wildlife. It also reaffirmed the importance of preserving the natural environment for future generations.
