Sustainable living with Ingenia Lifestyle

As the need for us all to tread as lightly on the earth as we can increases, Ingenia Lifestyle recognises the crucial role we all play in creating sustainable communities that make the world a better place for our children and grandchildren.

From master planning to the day-to-day life in an Ingenia Lifestyle land lease community, sustainability is a core consideration that informs everything we do. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact now, while making our communities more efficient and resilient, and better prepared for the challenges of the future.

We’re creating new, sustainable communities in harmony with the surrounding ecosystems and seeking new ways to drive down our carbon footprint and water consumption across the board.

Emissions and water

We have reduced greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) in the communities we have owned since 2019 by 14 per cent . We are working with our utility partners to improve our water use data collection capabilities and reducing not only our consumption of potable water, but our communities’ exposure to a changing climate, with on-site water collection at Parkside, Ballarat and Hervey Bay.

Creating sustainable communities

Since 2022, all new homes are all-electric. New, 7-Star NatHERS-rated (Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme) homes at our Natura, Port Stephens development are equipped with at least 4kW solar arrays, and 3,000-litre rainwater tanks. The community was designed to develop in harmony with the local koala population. We widened the existing koala corridor, with additional plantings throughout of 700 eucalyptus saplings. We’re targeting 90% of the construction waste for recycling.

Work has begun on our new community at Beveridge, Victoria which targets a Green Star – Communities rating and where all 261 homes will attract a 7.5-star NatHERS rating and Green Star Homes certification that signifies dwellings are highly efficient, fossil-fuel free, healthy, and resilient. That means efficient appliances linked to the solar-powered community micro-grid, heat pumps and heat recovery ventilation, double glazing and recycled water reticulation.

In 2022, work progressed on the community clubhouse at Ingenia Lifestyle Parkside Lucas in Ballarat, Vic, to “Best Practice” Built Environment Sustainability Scorecard (BESS) Assessment standards. 2023 saw the first installation of geothermal heating and cooling at Ingenia Lifestyle Nature’s Edge, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

These are just a few examples of how Ingenia Lifestyle is working with government, regulatory bodies and local stakeholders to create vibrant, connected communities that make the world a better place. Happily, these initiatives also create immediate benefits for residents. The convenience of EV-charging capability, for example. The enhanced lifestyle benefits of more trees, more green space and closer proximity to nature.

There are so many reasons to do what we can to reduce our environmental impact, and so many ways to do it that make life better for us now, as well as into the future. At Ingenia Lifestyle, we are really excited about the potential of a better way to do things – and we hope you are too.
