Knitting from the heart at Ingenia Lifestyle Millers Glen

08 Jan 2026

For residents at Ingenia Lifestyle Millers Glen in Beaudesert, the spirit of community has been woven into something truly special – handmade toys and clothes for premature babies and seriously ill children.

The Crafts Club took part in Ingenia Lifestyle’s Knitting from the Heart initiative, which ran across communities earlier this year.

With just seven members, the group managed to knit and crochet a grand total of 94 items – including teddies, baby bonnets, booties and beanies – earning themselves a win as the top scoring community, while helping children and families supported by Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Now in its seventh year, Knitting from the Heart invited residents to choose from 11 heartwarming patterns, each made with care and compassion.

Founder of the Millers Glen resident Crafts Club Kerry Peterson said she found the initiative was a great way to give back to the community.

“When our Community Manager told us about it, I knew it was something our group had to be part of,” she said.

“Knowing that just by doing something we love, we could help sick children and their families in their time of need made it such a fulfilling experience.”

Fellow resident and avid knitter Linda Binding said taking part in the initiative was incredibly rewarding.

“I really enjoy knitting and this is something very worthwhile,” she said.

“I’ve been knitting since I was a child, but this was my first time taking part in Knitting from the Heart and the octopuses and beanies were my favourite patterns to work with.

“Knowing that the items were to be used to help premature babies made it even more special."

The Knitting from the Heart initiative is part of Ingenia Communities’ ongoing partnership with RMHC.

The partnership has provided staff and residents with the opportunity to get involved in a range of activities to support the invaluable work RMHC does in supporting families with seriously ill children.
