As soon as they set eyes on our fledgling community, they instantly knew they had found exactly what they’d been searching for. 

“We drove in and just thought, this is perfect. It gives us everything we want,” Brad said.

After years of work, raising a family and building a life in southeast Queensland, the move marks a conscious shift, not into retirement as they knew it, but into something far more dynamic. 

“We’ve travelled quite a bit around Australia and always had in mind finding somewhere we could see ourselves retiring,” Brad said. 

“But we both want to be active. We don’t want to just sit there and twiddle our thumbs.” 

That mindset is what ultimately led them to Blueys Beach. Although it was a destination they hadn’t previously considered, they both instantly connected with the area. 

For Jan, the move also carries a deeper, more personal significance. 

“My dad’s family was from down that way,” she said.  

“It’s quite special for me to be going back. I’m really excited to explore that area again and see what connections I can make. 

“It’s such a beautiful area. We love the quiet coastal feel and it’s exactly what we want for this next stage of life. 

“In summer you’ve got the beach, the lakes, the surfing, all the water sports. And in winter, you’ve got the Barrington Tops, the hinterland, the Hunter Valley. It’s just an all-round lifestyle.”

“It’s very much us,” Jan said.  

“The design, the colours, everything about it just fits. We’re basically taking the feel of our current home and bringing it into something more manageable.” 

While they are downsizing in scale, they are stepping up in lifestyle – something they say was reinforced by their experience with the Ingenia team and the broader community vision. 

“The quality of the build is just fantastic and so is the service we’ve had from the staff. They really go above and beyond,” Brad said.  

“And the community side of things really resonates with us as well. There’s so much opportunity to be involved, to stay active, to meet people. 

“The future amenities like the gym, the activities within the community all really appeal because we don’t want to just sit around, we want to be doing things."

“We don’t consider ourselves old. We’ve got a very young, active outlook on life.” 

With four children and four grandchildren, family visits to the coast are set to become a regular part of their lives. 

Even their much-loved cat, Esther, is set to embrace the coastal lifestyle. 

“We’re bringing her down and turning her into a beach cat,” Brad laughed. 

As construction progresses and the first homes begin to take shape, Brad and Jan are already looking ahead at what’s to come when they move in at the end of the year. 

“We’re really excited, it just feels like a new start,” Jan said.
