After 20 years of living in Capalaba in a large family home, Maggie and Mike decided to downsize, opting for the peaceful countryside neighbourhood of Millers Glen by Ingenia Lifestyle.
Their search for the right home lasted three years and included other Ingenia Lifestyle locations at Hervey Bay and Chambers Flat but they were ultimately won over by Millers Glen and its laidback country charm.
The couple’s initial trip to Millers Glen was their first time visiting Beaudesert and left them instantly charmed by the beauty of the natural surrounds.
“On our drive to Millers Glen I was amazed by the greenery and rolling hills, it reminded us of our roots back home in countryside Victoria, so I immediately felt connected,” Maggie said.
“Not only did we admire the open space and country town feel but also the location’s proximity to everything we needed to live our life with ease and convenience. The neighbourhood has great shops, an RSL, doctors and it’s even close to the hospital.”
The couple are now settled into their new home and enjoying the simplicity of downsizing and spending time being social.
“Due to several health issues and physical challenges, our family home became too difficult for us to maintain. We spent our weekends at Bunnings buying supplies trying to keep up with it all. Our pool was even turning into a swamp! We had to hire a gardener in the end, to help maintain the pool and garden.”
“It’s been a joy in our new home at Millers Glen, we’re no longer stressing over the constant upkeep of owning a large home. Now we have less responsibility and more time to do the things we love.”
Before moving to Millers Glen, Maggie had fallen over at her previous home, unable to get up on her own and had to wait several hours for an ambulance.
After moving to Millers Glen, Maggie had a similar experience but was able to call the onsite office and within five minutes, two staff members had arrived to assist.
“I feel much safer here at Millers Glen knowing if I need help it’s just a phone call away,” Maggie said.
“The community has been great at keeping us social, we’ve actually met more people within five months of living at Millers Glen than 20 years living at Capalaba.”
“It’s been so lovely meeting all the new residents and staff. Everyone is friendly and the sense of community feels strong. The social clubs have been a great way to connect with everyone.”
With the Club Millers sport precinct opening in the next few months, the couple are excited to try the facilities including a swimming pool, bowling green, pickleball courts and an outdoor alfresco entertainment space.
Maggie said she looks forward to listening to bands play live music in the outdoor entertainment space while Mike is keen to use the outdoor spaces to catch up with new friends and relax in the surrounding nature.
The deep sense of community, new facilities and the lushness of the countryside were all major selling points for Maggie and Mike, however, the couple also appreciated the ability to customise their home to suit their style.
“The people who have designed the layouts of the homes have done a top-notch job. I love my plants and flowers, so it’s been great that the design choices have allowed me to continue my passion for gardening.”
“The whole process has been great, and Mike and I couldn’t be happier with our decision to move here!”
