Important Message Ingenia Lifestyle Lake Conjola

Important Update at 3:00pm, Tuesday 7 January 2020

Dear Ingenia Lifestyle Lake Conjola residents, family and friends,
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during the NSW bushfire emergency. Our community has survived the bushfire with no loss of life or major injuries to our residents, guests and staff, however we have lost two homes and have experienced damage to the community and holiday park.

CRUCIAL UPDATE:
We are in the hands of emergency services and infrastructure and utility providers and the current situation is we recommend you, if at all possible, do not return to the lifestyle community. As we have commenced this new year in the grips of an emergency situation, we recognise how much work there is to do in the recovery of our community, the health and safety of our residents and the overall safety within the Lake Conjola area.

Ingenia has made available free counselling services for the Lake Conjola residents. We recognise speaking with a counsellor can help during this time to identify acute stress reactions residents may be experiencing and the services will offer them coping skills and support after this critical incident.

EVENT RECOUNT:
Ingenia’s first priority is always on the preservation of life. The Ingenia Emergency Management Response team was mobilised on 20th December 2019. Since this time our senior management has been actively involved in the catastrophic fire emergency event which has impacted eight Ingenia assets, from Lake Conjola to far south NSW. The Emergency Response team have had, and continue to have, direct dialogue with all emergency services including NSW RFS, Police, Ambulance, NSW Health and the Emergency Operation Control Centre for NSW.

The Emergency Response team have provided continued support for the Ingenia front line teams and has ensured critical communication and alerts are provided to all residents and their emergency contacts, holiday guests and annual owners across various channels. Please be rest assured the senior management team from the CEO down are actively involved in the emergency management.

The bushfire event unfolded during the 31st December, far exceeded all RFS guidance. Despite repeated requests, the RFS could not safely provide ground support for an extended period when the fire commenced at Lake Conjola due to the significant fire in Conjola Park. Instead they provided air coverage, with repeated water bombing of Lake Conjola.
The community clubhouse was spared, however two homes and three cars and community property suffered fire damage, some beyond repair. Most importantly we had no loss of life or major injuries.

After the event, a number of Ingenia staff stayed on site to assist on fighting numerous spot fires, along with residents putting out spot fires too, and stayed there until 2nd January. However due to advice and warnings from the RFS / Police, staff, the relief team and many residents were removed in the afternoon of 2nd January.

Before we evacuated, the team provided generators, a satellite phone and water and fresh food for the residents who decided to stay during the weekend’s catastrophic conditions. On repeated requests from senior management, the RFS, NSW Ambulance and Police attended our community multiple times during and post the fire. Once staff were given access to the community on the 6th January, they commenced their assessment, met with residents and agreed on the next critical steps.

CURRENT CONDITIONS:
Operationally, our primary focus is to re-establish essential services. We also must assess the impact of the fires on the homes, the community facilities, the utility services and the health and safety of turning them back on.

We are without power and there has been significant damage to telecommunications and internet to the region which means limited phone communication.

We are continuing to liaise with Endeavour Energy regarding the connection of power. This needs to be done by the utility supplier, TransGrid and Endeavour Energy (not Ingenia). We are in direct dialogue, but are receiving inconsistent messaging. Based on what we know, the majority of the lines have been reconnected to Lake Conjola, however we understand there is an issue with a substation that feeds the greater Lake Conjola region; at this point in time we are advised to expect reconnection around 6pm on the 8th of January, (please note that this may change dependent on the energy providers rectification works).

We understand residents wish to remain within their homes, however as there remains no power – this continues to be challenging. We have organised additional generators to assist with baseline needs; furthermore, we are working to make available an amenities block in the tourism park available, enabling residents to have a warm shower (clean towels and bathroom amenities will be provided).

There is also an additional group of staff onsite today – working to clean and return the community to some level of regularity.

We understand this is a very trying time for you, our residents and their family and friends. Our team, senior management, contractors, infrastructure providers and emergency services are doing everything possible to restore normal operations back into the community.

We would also like to thank our residents for their incredible efforts during the fires, for working together as a community and ensuring the welfare of your neighbours and safe guarding of the community. It is heart-warming to hear of the night time cook ups, the sharing of generators and general care, support and compassion you have shown for one another.

If you at any stage, would like to seek further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact:
